What if you can save hundreds of dollars on SAT tutoring by one weird trick? Try a different ZIP code. When researching the Princeton Review website for SAT tutoring, four Harvard College students discovered that the site required a ZIP code be entered prior to learning the cost of the private online tutoring services. With this information, Keyon Vafa, Christian Haigh, Alvin Leung, and Noah Yonack tested 33,000 ZIP codes. The results? The Princeton Review would charge you from $2,760 to $3,240 for 24 hours of private online SAT tutoring depending on your ZIP code. The student researchers learned that it even made a difference whether you lived in ZIP codes 13901 or 13905 in Binghamton, N.Y., where you’re charged $2,760 versus paying $3,000 if you live in 13903 or 13904.Their research, which appeared online in Technology Science, published by the Data Privacy Lab at Harvard University, was advanced by ProPublica’s data journalists Jeff Larson, Surya Mattu, and Julia Angwin, who published an accompanying paper in Technology Science that found areas with high Asian populations are 1.8 times more likely to be paying more for the tutoring services than similar areas without Asians. Tweet LifestyleRelationships 8 Things Guys Notice About You Instantly by: – September 1, 2011 Share The second a man sees you, he starts ticking off a checklist to determine if he’ll ask you out. Shocker: A nice badunkadunk is nowhere on that list. You know that look where his eyes slide past you…then turn back? Wouldn’t it be great to know what stopped him? You totally can. “There are a few things men instantly observe when they meet a woman,” says Jackie Black, PhD, author of Meeting Your Match. Learn what they are and you can maximize your, um, assets. Then you’ll have your pick.1. How Thick Your Hair IsThis is all about evolution. Since caveman days, dudes have been drawn to lush locks, which signal that a woman is healthy (translation: shaggable).2. If Your Smile Is GenuineSometimes your eyes crinkle a bit when you grin. Most men are good at distinguishing the vibe of this kind of smile, which says you’re relaxed and fun.3. The Size of Your GroupYou don’t want a big bunch (it’ll be hard for him to approach) or just one friend (he’ll figure you wouldn’t desert her to talk to him). The perfect crew size? Three. Your two buds can keep each other company when you slip away.4. The Pitch of Your VoiceStudies show that men are drawn to voices in a slightly higher register (think Kristin Bell’s), probably because — yep, evolution — they’re reliable signs of youth and reproductive health.5. Your Hip-to-Waist RatioYet again, blame eons of human history. Men instinctually look for baby mamas. If your waist is noticeably smaller than your hips, it signifies fertility — a huge point in your favor. A wide belt will emphasize that hourglass shape.6. Your GlowinessGuys associate a radiant complexion with good mental health. That’s because stress and anxiety usually cause breakouts and dull skin. So those lotions and bronzers you sweep over your cheeks? Totally worth it.7. What’s Fake About YouNot personality-fake, but artificial-accoutrement- fake: lashes, hair extensions, etc. To guys, these things shout high-maintenance! Not good.8. Your EyesPeople focus on eyes more than they do on any other body part. And dramatic eye makeup will have him zeroing in on your peepers even more.By Bethany HeitmanCosmopolitan.com Share
Following speculation over MLS’ steps into esports with recent job ads, the organisation has announced that they will be launching eMLS, an esports league in which 19 of the 23 MLS (Major League Soccer) teams will be represented by players in FIFA 18.At the start of eMLS, the 19 teams represented will be: Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew SC, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, LA Galaxy, Minnesota United FC, Montreal Impact, New England Revolution, New York City FC, New York Red Bulls, Orlando City SC, Philadelphia Union, Portland Timbers, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders FC, Sporting Kansas City, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. It is unknown why the remaining four teams are not involved from the start. Each team will organise their own qualifier to select a player “from its own region” to represent the team in the eMLS, after which each player will compete in the eMLS Cup at PAX East in April to compete for their spot in the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series Playoffs and a chance to be crowned champion at the FIFA eWorld Cup 2018 in August.Gary Stevenson, president and managing director of MLS Business Ventures said: “This step forward into competitive gaming is a key component in our partnership with EA Sports to promote deeper engagement and connections between MLS supporters and the millions of FIFA players around the world.”An MLS spokesperson later told Polygon that “some teams may choose to have multiple players represent them,” although clubs can send only one player to eMLS events. The MLS is following in the footsteps of the NBA and NFL, who each have created their own esports leagues in their respective gaming titles. The MLS isn’t the first football league to do this either, with the Eredivisie’s E-divisie in full flow, the French Orange eLigue 1, the Virtual Bundesliga and the competition in Russia in which all top flight teams boast a FIFA pro. Esports Insider says: As we guessed earlier last week, the MLS is launching its own esports league in FIFA 18. This seems to be becoming the norm for sports leagues in North America, and it will be interesting to see if this transfers over to the UK and worldwide.
