Local art student’s Marilyn Monroe replica dress being displayed in LA

first_imgSheck says the exhibit runs in LA from May 27 to sometime around the end of August/early September.“This will be down in Los Angeles all summer but I’m thinking about what to do with it after, so that can definitely be a possibility – have it shown up here [in Fort St. John].”Sheck hopes he can take a trip to LA to see his work, meet the people that put it on display and bring the dress back to Fort St. John. He’s looking for financial assistance and is doing so through a gofundme page. “It’s all old film strips – its 16 mm film,” explains Shceck of the dress. “It actually has images of women in 1950’s style advertisement on it.”Sheck says the dress is an exact fit of Monroe’s measurements and is completely wearable – right down to the zipper and buckle. It’s essentially an exact replica, expect for the fact that it’s black rather than white for the obvious reason of the standard colour of film.He also says initially, he wasn’t sure how successful the project would be. That is until a friend and owner of an art shop in Vancouver inquired about its worth – which lead Sheck to begin his own inquiries through collectors.- Advertisement -“One of the collectors…got in contact with the Hollywood Museum, and then about a week ago now, I got a phone call from the President of the Hollywood Museum and they’ll be shipping the dress down to Los Angeles soon,” explains Sheck.Sheck says the entire experience has so far been “surreal.”“I haven’t even finished my art degree yet, I am only in my third year, but I have already been given this crazy opportunity,” Sheck goes on to say. “It’s kind of cool to have that foot in the door already.”Advertisementlast_img read more
