Gold Line extension proposal would boost Ontario Airport

first_imgIn what would be a a multibillion-dollar plan to ease congestion at Los Angeles International Airport, city officials on Tuesday proposed extending the Gold Line light-rail system to provide direct service to Ontario Airport. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, joined by officials from San Bernardino County and Ontario, said he will urge the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and federal officials to consider funding the line’s extension from Azusa to the airport to help increase passenger access to the facility. “Right now, Ontario has 7.9 million passengers a year,” Villaraigosa said at a City Hall news conference. “We hope to see it grow to 30 million a year to take some of the traffic from LAX. “Anyone who has been on the 405 Freeway today can tell you that LAX is already at the tipping point,” Villaraigosa said. That cost could more than double if the line were extended to Ontario, officials estimate. Littman said Metro has already identified some $50 billion in transit improvements needed for the region, but has only about $4 billion in funds. “If it was to be extended, we would need to find some other sources of revenue,” Littman said. The city of Los Angeles owns and operates the Ontario facility, and Ontario officials have supported its expansion. Villaraigosa said the Union Station FlyAway to Ontario Airport already carries 600,000 passengers a year. Part of the plan is to try to persuade the airlines to move more of their service to Ontario from LAX. Villaraigosa said city officials hope to raise maintenance and landing fees at LAX as an incentive for the airlines to move east. rick.orlov@dailynews.com (213) 978-0390160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. You’re all set! “There is no question that regionalization has to be the answer for Los Angeles and surrounding areas. … “We have to find a way to take passengers from LAX, … and Ontario has to be a major source of the air traffic from Southern California.” But Ontario Mayor Paul Leon said the plan will have to be accompanied by ways to deal with traffic. “If we don’t plan ahead, we will end up with the same problems that exist around LAX,” Leon said. Leon and San Bernardino County Supervisor Gary Ovitt pledged to work with Villaraigosa to lobby for federal funds to help Metro finance a Gold Line extension. Metro spokesman Mark Littman said current plans for the Gold Line call for extending it by 22 miles to Azusa from Sierra Madre at an estimated price tag of $1.7 billion. last_img read more

The ordinance considers residents to be living in their vehicle if they use it for things like sleeping, bathing or preparing meals. The Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee approved the proposal last month, sending it to the city council for a final decision. It’s a restoration of a law that was previously in place,  replacing a nearly 36-year-old ban that the council unanimously voted to repeal in February. The city had not enforced the old ban since last year, when a federal judge issued an injunction because the ban was unconstitutionally vague in how the city defined a person as living in a car.Council members and community members in favor of the revised ban said San Diego recently has been flooded with homeless. They emphasized that the goal is to encourage residents living in their vehicles to use monitored parking lots where residents can safely sleep overnight and access job training and housing assistance services. There are four safe parking lots open in the city, with a fifth set to open in June. There also are 2,700 government-funded shelter beds available. Critics say the new law unnecessarily criminalizes homeless people. The council approved the new law 6-3 after more than three hours of debate and public testimony Tuesday at City Hall. Dissenting votes were cast by Council President Georgette Gomez and members Monica Montgomery and Chris Ward.Taking effect immediately, the law was approved as an emergency ordinance. Chinese carmaker NIO stops traffic for over an hour in Beijing

first_img 49 Photos Tags Honda RidgelineAgain keeping the status quo, the Honda Ridgeline maintains third place on the American Made Index. This crossover-that-looks-like-a-truck provides a better ride than a traditional pickup and gets an awesome lockable trunk right in the floor of the bed. And it doesn’t do the truck stuff too badly, either, as it’s able to carry 1,860 pounds of payload and tow 3,500 pounds. The Ridgeline is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 good for 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. That is channeled through a six-speed automatic transmission with available all-wheel drive. It’s built in Lincoln, Alabama. This midsize crossover comes to the fray with great driving dynamics and plenty of tech like the standard Honda Sensing suite of active safety features. An available 8-inch touchscreen gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot.Under the hood is the stalwart 3.5-liter V6 producing 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. However unlike the Ridgeline, the Passport sends that power through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Having said that, just like the Ridgeline, this is the only powertrain available. While the 2019 model doesn’t see any changes from last, it’s still a darn good choice for families on the go with reconfigurable seats, Wi-Fi and an excellent rear-seat entertainment system. The Cabin Watch video system lets parents keep an eye on their little darlings without turning around in their seats, while Cabin Talk amplifies their voice so no yelling is required. The Odyssey is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 rated for 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Shown here in the tough ZR2 Bison off-road spec, the Chevy Colorado is an excellent truck and one of the two midsize pickups you can get with a diesel engine. Adding to the ZR2’s two-inch lift and front and rear locking differentials, the Bison gets beefier skid plates (trust me, that’s a good thing), steel bumpers and integrated recovery points. Heck, you can even get a snorkel.Base models get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual transmission, but a more popular choice is the 3.6-liter V6 gas engine with 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the 2.8-liter diesel pumps out 186 horsepower and a delicious 369 pound-feet of twist and is mated to a six-speed automatic. The Chevy Colorado is built in Wentzville, Missouri. Chevrolet CorvetteMoving up from the 10th-place slot last year is the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette. While we’ve all been ogling the new mid-engine Corvette, it’s easy to forget what a performance bargain the current-generation ‘Vette is. From the base trim to the Grand Sport to the bonkers ZR1, the Corvette is an American icon.My preference is for the Grand Sport, which strikes a perfect balance between everyday drivability and canyon-carving performance. The 6.2-liter V8 puts out 460 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. You can get it with a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, but the kicker is the borrowed chassis and aero parts from the beefier Z06. Like I said, perfect balance. Antuan Goodwin/Roadshow Having your car break down in traffic is always a serious bummer, but if you’re an automaker it has to be way worse, and yet that’s what reportedly happened to Chinese EV startup NIO during a recent test drive in Beijing.According to a report published last week by the South China Morning Post, an unspecified NIO concept car was doing a development drive in downtown Beijing when the car’s driver managed to initiate an over-the-air software update that made the vehicle essentially undrivable until it completed. It’s not clear what made the driver confirm the update, which he presumably did as NIO has stated that the update wouldn’t have happened automatically, but the car was stalled for over an hour while the update downloaded and installed itself. This was in the middle of one of the busiest districts in China’s capital city.Representatives from NIO attempted to explain what happened on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, but mostly just threw the driver under the proverbial bus and reminded us that you should be parked when you initiate an update.Still, despite this minor setback, NIO seems to be powering forward in its drive its drive to become one of the world’s biggest electric vehicle manufacturers, having already launched several production models in China and given an excellent showing at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.NIO didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. 2019 GMC Canyon: A fancier Colorado Share your voice Tags 2020 Hyundai Palisade review: Posh enough to make Genesis jealous Electric Cars Concept Cars,Enlarge ImageIt’s all in a day’s work for the Jeep Cherokee, the most American-made car in 2019. Jeep With high trade tensions looming and increasing talk of tariffs, more and more consumers are looking to buy American. Cars.com has released its annual American Made Index, showcasing companies that use the most American-sourced parts and labor in their vehicles. The results may surprise you.Cars.com analyzed more than 100 US-built vehicles for five key data points: manufacturing location, parts sourcing, US employment, engine sourcing and transmission sourcing. You might think something like the Ford F-150 would top the list, but it drops from its No. 5 spot for 2018 and out of the top 10 completely. Even the first-place holder, the Jeep Cherokee, is a pretty global product. It’s a Jeep, sure, but that brand is part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, an Italian-owned business.Cars.com surveyed 1,000 people and found that half are concerned about automotive import tariffs, with 41% saying they are unsure if tariffs would make them more likely to buy American. Either way, we’re big fans of all the vehicles on this list. These days, buying American doesn’t necessarily mean sticking with a US-based automaker. Acura RDXThe third-generation Acura RDX squeaks into the top ten list with larger proportions, plenty of interior space and better handling than its predecessor. Like its MDX counterpart, the RDX is available with the A-Spec styling package. The RDX sports a 2.0-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine. The boy had been cheating the e-commerce firm by placing orders for iPhones and replacing them with fake ones. The accused, Naveen B, was working with a third party vendor of Flipkart for the last four months. He used to place orders for iPhones from fake addresses within his service area located in Chennai. Once the phones were delivered to the address, Naveen would replace the phones with fake pieces, which were bought from the local market. He would then return the fake handsets to the company on the pretext of a customer complaint, who was not satisfied by the product, Business Standard reported.Using this technique, the boy had replaced 12 iPhones in the last one month. Benefits of facial oil in daily beauty regime

first_imgIncluding facial oil in your daily beauty regime helps to combat damage to facial skin like ageing. Facial oil can be beneficial in all aspects, says an expert.Good quality facial oil tricks the skin into thinking that it’s produced enough and therefore doesn’t need to produce more – which is one of the major reasons for the skin’s breakouts. Thus, it is ideal to use facial oils regularly as they help in rejuvenating the skin and due to the application procedure, help in relaxing the facial muscles. Also Read – Add new books to your shelfFacial oils are an excellent way to massage anti-oxidants and vitamins quickly into the skin, at the same time adding a natural glow and helping to save the skin from ageing. The oils get absorbed quickly and soften the appearance of fine lines. Due to the daily massage, they also help lift the facial muscles and make them firmer. Facial oil also has the ability to reduce redness, irritation and even breakouts. Vitamin E is highly beneficial as it is a powerful anti-oxidant that helps repair cell damage. Facial oils usually have the ever nourishing vitamin E, marula oil, Argan oil, rosehip, camellia, black cumin among other things.Facial oils are best for every skin type (dry, oily or combination) as they rebalance skin and restore a naturally healthy complexion.
